So the sceptics have been confounded. It ain't the Sun thats causing Global Warming BBC announces " 'No Sun link' to climate change'
I watched a very happy looking scientist from the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory confirming to a BBC reporter on this morning's breakfast news programme that the Sun's emissions are not the main drivers of our current climate change. The sceptics are wrong. The sceptics are, according to the BBC web site, unavailable for comment.
Here is a good overview of how humans can respond by George Monbiot
So what happens next? Millions of people in the Third World are going to die so that we can maintain our material 'progress' here in the West.
And all because we won't share and we don't want any kind of justice which will cost us our comforts.
And all because we poorer people in the West don't realise that we are sacrificial lambs too.
What we need to start looking at urgently are working patterns which encourage car and lorry use. What about overhauling our railways and canals now. Train HGV drivers to drive trains and barges?
Why are so many national UK companies employing inadequate numbers of engineers, who then have to drive 300+ miles on return trips, to do jobs at sites in areas where there are no qualified engineers? Because their sales teams are twats? Because of the endemic deficiency in engineering training in this country? My husband works for a company that does just that with no regard for his well-being or the effect upon the environment. He is totally exhausted by the driving demands made upon him and his Carbon Footprint is more than twice that of the rest of the family and house.
Outrageous for us as a family and appalling for the environment.
Bring back large scale local employers with their own buses for employees? Oh but we destroyed all those antiquated uneconomical businesses under Thatcherism because although they were profitable, big business could make even bigger profits through privatisation.
The anti-environment consumerist life style ( I consume therefore I am) has lulled us into thinking that our lives are actually better. People are confusing material acquisition with liberation and freedom.
